Researching corporate histories is very enjoyable because it allows you to place a company within the wider local and political narrative.

In 2019 I was commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers of London to write the corporate history of their Company from their foundation in the 14th century to the present day. This is part of the 450th anniversary of the grant of their charter by Elizabeth I in 1571, which will be celebrated in 2021. The book will be published by Amberley on 15th April 2021. The book’s chapters include the history of their livery hall, the history of female joiners in London, analysis of their membership, and the role of the Company in the 21st century. It is available to purchase from Amberley here.
